Superfood face masks from The Body Shop

I get drawn to the word “superfood” like a moth to the flames. So when The Body Shop (TBS) came out with their new range of superfood face masks with 100% vegetarian ingredients (some are actually 100% vegan), it was too much for me not to try them.

TBS opening their new concept store at Ion Orchard (a large mall in Singapore) in my birthday month was purely coincidental and it would have been a shame not to grab the birthday offer, so the trip to the store was a must!

Let me get straight to the new line of products they came out with – five different kinds of facial masks packed with goodness of various superfoods, targeting different skin concerns, with no parabens, paraffins, silicone or mineral oils.

  • Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask (100% vegan)
  • British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask (100% vegan)
  • Ethiopian Honey Deep Nourishing Mask
  • Chinese Ginseng & Rice Clarifying Polishing Mask
  • Amazonian Acai Energising Radiance Mask (100% vegan)

Simply but beautifully packed in tubs, these are priced at SGD 32.90 each.

The kind lady at the counter advised me to try few of the masks from the range depending upon my skin type (which is combination, prone to acne during certain days of the month) and my preference of what kind of result I was looking for (radiance and even skin tone). The textures for all the masks felt amazing on my hand – few had a cooling tingling effect while others plumped up the skin almost immediately! So a happy me got home with a bag of 3 superfood masks:

Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask (100% vegan)

This is a charcoal clay mask, with cooling green tea leaves and tea tree oil (which is a best-selling TBS product). It has a tingling effect  when used and instantly deep cleanses the skin taking out the gunk and dirt, leaving it feeling fresh and rejuvenated.

Chinese Ginseng & Rice Clarifying Polishing Mask

Every time I use it, it reminds me of my Mom forcing me to put  ground  rice and lentils pack on my face during holidays! Wish I had listened to her!

This pack has all the benefits of rice and Ginseng extract, it polishes the skin with the gritty granules and makes it look cleaner, visibly reducing the pores and unevenness. The smell is very earthy and raw.

Amazonian Acai Energising Radiance Mask (100% vegan)

Oh My God!!! This is the best of all for sure. This gel textured mask has Acai berry extract and Guarana seed extract from Brazil. The glow and radiance after using the mask is unbelievable. It claims to fight appearance of fatigue and boost radiance, and it does live up to the claims.

Me and my friend recently spent an afternoon together trying the masks on and she was pleasantly surprised to see the difference the mask made. We had tried the Charcoal mask which detoxed and purified the skin first and then the Acai mask gave radiance and rejuvenated the skin!

I had bought all the 3 above mentioned masks and was given few samples of the British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask (100% vegan) to try. It does have the same British Rose fragrance (a separate TBS line of product) and it felt amazingly cool and relaxing on the skin and the floral smell is just too nice. But unfortunately it didn’t really do anything dramatic to my skin, but nevertheless the experience was dreamy.

All these masks are supposed to be put on 2-3 times a week, for 5-10 minutes each and rinsed off with slight exfoliation. They can be mixed and matched for multi masking also.

These are available at all the TBS stores.

The products seem to be really good and your detailed information about it is very helpful. A ‘before’and ‘after’pic would have been good.!!

I used to swear by the Himalayan neem face wash before, it helped a lot with my acne… I think so:)
The body shop ladies, do tell you about the product extensively and asks you about your target concern areas, thus helping you decide what to buy. Otherwise you can always asks for sample to try.
